                                                                        Music Ministry


Ministry Purpose/Objective

         To Support and deepen the community’s liturgical prayer life through music.

Choir Member Position Description

Reports to:         Music Director  

General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Member:

Specific Responsibilities of Choir Members

  • Committed to attending regularly scheduled rehearsals.
  • Willingness to grow in vocal, particularly choir technique and/or instrumental technique.
  • Committed to attending regularly scheduled liturgies, especially around the Christmas and Holy Week and Easter festivities.


Special Activities

  • Attend rehearsal sessions as directed by the Music Director
  • Attend liturgical celebrations as directed by the Music Director


 Meetings

  • Attend initial training and any subsequent refresher training as scheduled by the Music Director.


Time Commitment

Rehearsals:                         Average of an hour and half each week – normally Tuesday at 6pm
Seasonal Rehearsals:        About 2 hours or less per week during Advent and Lenten seasons.                
Liturgical Participation:   Normally 1 hr per weekend
Special Liturgies:              Normally about 7-10 per year, lasting from 1 – 2 hours per liturgy.

Expected Length of Commitment

  • At least 3 year.


General Qualifications Required of Every Ministry and Committee Member:

Specific Qualifications Required

  • Practices the Catholic faith through regular attendance at liturgy and reception of the Sacraments.
  • Musical experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to take direction
  • Servant attitude toward the liturgy as opposed to "spotlight performance" (self-serving) attitude
  • Ability and willingness to rehearse with other musicians in a spirit of respectful teamwork

 

                                                    Music Director Position Description

Reports to:         Pastor and the Commission Chair

General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Chairperson and Coordinator:

Specific Responsibilities of Music Director

  • Collaborates with Pastor and Liturgy Commission Chair in the process of performing responsibilities
  • Recruits and trains new ministers of music.
  • Schedules musicians for all liturgical events.
  • Distributes Guidelines for Ministers of Music to new members.
  • Informs all members of any revisions or new directives.
  • Provides for organization of music
  • Explore new hymns and teaches the Congregation such new hymns
  • Helps all parish choirs – Children’s, Youth, Adult, etc.

Host an orientation for new ministers
Attend Annual parish Leadership training
Attend annual parish Ministry Recollection Day
Annual Parish Ministry Appreciation Dinner
Help with Annual Stewardship Fair

General Qualifications Required of Every Ministry and Committee Chairperson and Coordinator:

Specific Qualifications Required

  • Holds a degree in music
  • Experienced at Catholic Liturgical celebrations
  • Organizational, leadership and communication skills
