Ministry Purpose/Objective
 
To proclaim the Word of God during the Eucharistic liturgy.
                                                          Lector Member Position Description
Reports to:         Lector Chairperson or Coordinator
General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Member:
Specific Responsibilities of Lector Members
- Review and understand responsibilities outlined in the Parish Guideline for Lectors received at initial training.
 - Implement guidelines:
 
- Be familiar with the layout of the lectionary.
 - Review the assigned reading(s) (First Reading, Second Reading, General Intercessions and Announcements) for scheduled liturgy.
 - Proclaim reading(s) at assigned liturgy.
 - Proclaims readings as needed at times other than Sunday liturgy: Triduum, HolyDays, Reconciliation liturgy, etc.
 
 Special Activities
- Attends an initial orientation/training session.
 - Attend Annual parish Ministry Recollection Day
 - Attend Annual Parish Ministry Appreciation Day
 
Meetings
- Rehearsal for special liturgies
 
Time Commitment
- One and a half hours per assigned liturgy.
 
 
Expected Length of Commitment
 General Qualifications Required of Every Ministry and Committee Member:
Specific Qualifications Required
- Practices the Catholic faith through regular attendance at liturgy and reception of the Sacraments.
 - Has received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
 - Desire to proclaim God’s word.
 - Ability to confidently speak in a clear voice with enunciation and feeling for the meaning of God’s Word.
 
 
                                         Lector Chairperson/Coordinator Position Description
Reports to:         Liturgy Commission Chairperson.
 General Responsibilities of Every Ministry and Committee Chairperson and Coordinator:
Specific Responsibilities of Lector Coordinator
- Maintains open communication with office secretary for scheduling
 - Recruits new lectors, emphasize public speaking skills.
 - Maintains active liturgy involvement
 - Collaborate with Director of Liturgy on issues concerning repeated absences of lectors.
 - Ensures that qualification standards are met and standing is good before allowing Lector responsibilities to be assumed.
 - Organizes or conducts training for new lectors according to the guidelines set forth by the Liturgical Commission.
 - Communicates new or changed procedures to all lectors.
 - Serves on Liturgical Commission (or assigns delegate).
 
Special Activities
- Host an orientation for new ministers
 - Attend Annual parish Leadership training
 - Attend annual parish Ministry Recollection Day
 - Annual Parish Ministry Appreciation Dinner
 - Help with Annual Stewardship Fair
 
 Time of Commitment and Expected Length of Commitment
- Meetings are specific to number of individuals needing to be trained/updated
 - All Commission meetings
 - Two years, and may be extended by one year with a maximum term of three year.
 
General Qualifications Required of Every Ministry and Committee Chairperson and Coordinator:
- Specific Qualifications Required
 - Practices the Catholic faith through regular attendance at liturgy and reception of the Sacraments.
 - Current or previous service in lector ministry.
 - Knowledge of scripture.
 - Organizational skills.
 - Knowledge of oral, public communication concepts.
 - Ability to interact comfortably with individuals.
 - Has received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
